The Essex Art Center hosted a show by Dennis in 2019. The crow migration occurs every year between October and March. Scrapbook
This scrapbook contains a wide-ranging collection of newspaper clippings spanning the years 1934 to approximately 1944, capturing the community life and history of Lawrence, Massachusetts during this period. The first section, approximately forty pages, features individual portrait clippings believed to be alumni and teachers of Lawrence High School (LHS). These are not standard yearbook photographs, as many of the individuals are older and several are shown in military uniform, suggesting updates on former students and faculty.
A significant portion of the scrapbook is dedicated to LHS and other local school athletics, with extensive sports page coverage of football, basketball, baseball, and women’s athletics including basketball, softball, and tennis. Additional clippings highlight various LHS club activities, reflecting the vibrant student life of the era.
The final section focuses primarily on World War II-related content. These articles document local men enlisting or being deployed, notices of those wounded or killed in action, and reports on War Bond drives and community efforts supporting the war. Of particular note are multiple clippings about U.S. Navy Petty Officer Julian Stopypa, the first Lawrence native killed in World War II, who perished aboard the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941.
Also included are articles related to the Polish National Church and its fundraising efforts for Polish Relief during the war years.
The scrapbook consists of 81 pages. While the binding has separated and is in fair condition, the individual clippings remain in good condition, making this a valuable resource for researchers studying Lawrence High School history, local athletics, and Lawrence’s contributions to the World War II home front and military service.
