IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

The Lawrence History Center will be CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION, effective TODAY (2/7/2024) and until further notice. We expect to be closed for several weeks while new HVAC systems are installed in our main building and in two outer buildings.

With active work crews onsite - and a loud and messy project - we have determined that it will be safer that LHC not have any volunteers or members of the public in the buildings during construction.

Our collections are being moved and covered for their protection to accommodate the work. Access to resources will be limited and/or not possible. That said, staff will be able to respond to research questions as access to collection materials permit. Please reach out to us at 978-686-9230 or by email at research@lawrencehistory.org.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we carry out this mission critical activity!

Some background:

In 2022, the Lawrence History Center was awarded a grant in the amount of $105,000 by the Mass Cultural Council Cultural Facilities Fund, in partnership with Mass Development, to install HVAC in its main building and two outer buildings for the purpose of preserving its archival collections. The grant, along with match funding from the Nathaniel & Elizabeth P. Stevens Foundation, the William M. Wood Foundation (Bank of America, N.A., Co-Trustee), the Margaret Collins Charitable Foundation, The White Fund, the Catherine T. McCarthy Memorial Trust Fund, and Donna and Gerald Williamson, will allow LHC to increase its climate controlled archival storage space by nearly 400%.
