What Did The WPA Do?
From machinists to musicians, bridges to bookbinding, the WPA expanded the meaning of public work activities.
“Usefulness” was paramount. WPA projects matched the unemployed with jobs that would use their skills and benefit their communities.
Projects included, among many other activities:
*building roads and sewers
* canning food for the hungry
* putting on puppet shows
* repairing public buildings.
Supporters saw these works as the key to the cultural, physical, and economic progress of our nation.
