In Loving Memory of Kathleen S. Flynn
(April 8, 1946—August 23, 2025)
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our cherished colleague and friend, Kathleen S. Flynn, on August 23, 2025. Her loss is immeasurable, as is the legacy she leaves behind. At its November 2025 meeting, the Lawrence History Center Board of Directors voted to name Kathy Researcher Emerita and to establish the Kathleen S. Flynn Research Fellowship.
The Kathleen S. Flynn Research Fellowship honors the life and legacy of our dear colleague, whose passion for history, scholarship, and community shaped the work of the Lawrence History Center for more than forty years.
This fellowship supports emerging and established researchers—students, scholars, and community members—whose projects draw upon the Center’s collections to explore the history of Lawrence and its people. By fostering new scholarship, the fellowship advances Kathy’s enduring commitment to preserving local history and making it meaningful for future generations.
The selected fellow will receive a $750 stipend to support their research and will be invited to share their findings through a public presentation or written piece, helping to deepen our collective understanding of Lawrence’s past and its continuing story.
LHC anticipates awarding the Fellowship for the first time in 2026. Please direct questions to Amita Kiley, amita@lawrencehistory.org.
