Folder Alexander B. Bruce School. This folder contains the following items: (a) Monthly progress report card (undated) for Katherine Hamblet, Grade V. The report was filled out by teacher Bertha L. Mose (1994.217.770); (b) black and white photograph (photocopy) of the Bruce School (undated); (c) a photocopied, handwritten list of names with the heading "Alexander B. Bruce School/Grade VIII/Miss Camilla Howe, Teacher/Grade room picture". The picture is not included. Folder Amesbury Street School. This folder contains two photocopies from books pertaining to Lawrence public schools with mention of the Amesbury Street School. The first page contains an undated picture of the Amesbury Street School with no citation as to the book origin. The second page is a copy from page 23 of the 1886-1887 Superintendent's Report from Lawrence City Documents. This page mentions that the school was built during the municipal year, ending March 1, 1850.

Folder John Breen School. This folder contains the following items: (a) "Souvenir" Booklet listing the Breen School faculty and students for the 1915 school year (1984.105.002). The cover of the booklet contains a photograph of the Breen School.; (b) a letter, dated October 23, 1958 from Master Edward F. Parthum of the John Breen Grammar School to Mr. Harty with a request for curtains to be provided in various rooms (1988.094.055); (c) various items related to the Breen Centennial Celebration. These items include a pamphlet, invitation, and programs (2) pertaining to the 2010 celebration; (d) a business card for Dr. Ada I. Ramos, Assistant Principal of the John Breen School (2022.033); (e) a statement made by Lawrence Superintendent Bernard M. Sheridan on the death of Honorary John Breen, December 23, 1910.

Folder Cross Street School. This folder contains a photograph (photocopy) of a group of students with the following inscription, "This is a picture of the scholars in one room, one class, at the the Cross street grammar school, Lawrence, Mass. Was taken about 1886 or 1885 Miss Carlton , teacher. Scholars No. 1 Maude Wheelock, No. 2 Abbie Dacy, No. 3 Bessie Nay, No. 4 Nat Rankin, No. 5 Maude Sellers, No. 6 Miss Carlton, teacher. The photograph is marked with the corresponding numbers. (1987.023.001)

Folder Essex Street School. This folder contains: (a) a photocopy of a card titled "Prayer for a Teacher" which is from Mary McCade, a teacher at the Essex Street School from 1940-1941 and (b) a letter dated June 10, 1971,  from architect Berton V. Phinney to Lawrence Mayor Daniel Kiley which in part pertains to a proposed study for the renovation of the Essex School (1990.003.013)

Folder Essex School Journals. This folder contains monthly journals written and published "by the scholars of the Essex Grammar School". Folder Essex Street School/ Miscellaneous Materials From School Registers. This folder contains the following items all of which were found in Essex Street school registers: (a) handwritten notes found in a register belonging to teacher Margaret O' Sullivan, dated September 9, 1964; (b) a 1966 promotional calendar from S. Reitano & Son Insurance Agency found in a register belonging to teacher Mary Kiernan (c) handwritten attendance percentages dated September 7, 1966 found in a register belonging to teacher Anne M. Hayes; (d) mathematic equations found in a register dated September 7, 1966 belonging to teacher Judith McCarthy; (e) closing reports and records report date June 1968 and a letter to parents from Principal Mary R. Shinnick dated September 1967 found in a register labelled "School"; (f) blank documents (2) titled "School Record of Children Referred for Examination for Special Education/Teacher Referral Blank to Superintendent of Schools" found in a register dated October 24, 1967, belonging to teacher Nancy Kelley. 

Folder Robert Frost School. This folder contains the following items: (a) an invitation to the dedication ceremony of the Robert Frost School dated December 15, 1985 (2) (b) a June 14, 1987, Eagle Tribune newspaper photograph (photocopy) titled "Today is Flag Day" depicting Lawrence Mayor Kevin Sullivan presenting a city official emblem flag to Frost School Principal John Benjamin (2); (c) a program for the Robert Frost School Window Dedication dated June 10, 1993 (1994.200.018); (d) an invitation to the Frost School 20th Anniversary Open House dated March 21, 2006; (e) "Words From The Frost" literary magazine published by the students of the Robert Frost School dated Spring 2005 (2006.033); (f) a Frost School Final Assembly program dated June 20, 2008, which includes a list of the graduating students (2009.095.001); (g) a Frost School Final Assembly program dated June 24, 2009, which includes a list of the graduating students; (h) a Frost School Final Assembly program dated June 16, 2010, which includes a list of the graduating students; (i) The Frost Flash school newspaper (2 copies: Spring/Summer 2010 and Fall/Winter 2010); (j) National Junior Honor Society/8th Annual Induction Ceremony program dated May 26, 2011 (2) (2013.072), (k) Robert Frost Educational Complex Spring Concert program; (l) BSA Awards program presented by the Frost School Grade 8 writing lab class (undated); (m) an undated Eagle Tribune article titled "Restored Stained Glass Revives Interest in Poet Frost" along with an accompanying photograph depicting Steven Annaldo, Martin Delaney, Danielle Tirone and Jonas Stundza; (n) a  2007 book titled "Entering Lawrence: A Photo Alphabet Book", written and photographed by the students in Miss Ha's class at the Frost School (2015.070.003)

Folder Frost School 4th Grade Oral Histories, January 2017. This folder contains the oral histories of Frost School students which were conducted as part of a field trip to the Lawrence History Center.

Folder Gerard A. Guilmette School. This folder contains the following items: (a) a program for the Guilmette School Dedication and Reception dated June 2, 2002; (b) "Through the Lens at Hancock Court" promotional card which details an afterschool photography program being held at the Guillmette School, dated June 7, 2006 (2); (c) a Press Release from Dr. Mary Lou Bergeron, Superintendent of Schools, dated October 22, 2010 which addresses the elevated mold levels found at the Guilmette School and outlines a time frame as to when the issue will be remediated; (d) a letter addressed to Guilmette School Parents from Mary Lou Bergeron, Superintendent of Schools, dated October 24, 2010 explaining the issues concerning the mold problem, including a timeline for remediation and the announcement that Guilmette students will be relocated to other city schools for the duration of the mold clean up. There are two forms of this letter, one written in English and one in Spanish; (e) a packet of correspondence pertaining to the Guilmette School mold issue. The first letter is written by Michael P. Gagliardi of the Laborers International Union of North America Local 175 To Dr. Mary Lou Bergeron, Dated October 25, 2010. Also included is correspondence between Yadira Betances, City Desk Reporter for The Eagle Tribune and Mary Lou Bergeron regarding the mold issue; (f) a memorandum to Lawrence City Council President Frank Moran and Members of the Lawrence City Council from Mayor William Lantigua dated May 9, 2013 regarding the amending of the Guilmette School bond authorization; (g) A letter to Parents and Guardians of Guilmette students dated December 2, 2013 notifying them that the Guilmette school was without water due to a lack of water pressure; (h) a program for "Once Upon A December", presented by the LPS Dance Department, dated December 12 and 13, 2019; (i) a Guilmette School Relocation Plan which is undated.

Folder Hampshire Street School. This folder contains the following items: (a) an undated Hampshire St. School report card for 4th grader Thomas Wattman. The report card was signed by teacher J. L. Chase and parent Mrs. J. Wattman (2021.010); (b) a picture (photocopy) of the Hampshire Street School; (c) a 1944 newspaper clipping depicting a picture of the Hampshire Street School along with a brief history of the school.

Folder Haverhill Street School. This folder contains the 2002 Haverhill Street School yearbook and the Haverhill Street School 8th Grade Final Assembly program dated June 12, 2002.

Folder Hennessey School. This folder contains a newspaper clipping dated April 2, 1968 depicting Mayor Daniel Kiley, Jr., John A. Stundza and James J. O'Neill at the site of the "new Ward Five school" later named the Hennessey School.

Folder Gilbert E. Hood School. This folder contains the following items: (a) "The Hood Broadcaster", dated April 1924, a newsletter published by the Grade 7, Room 4 students of the Hood school.  One original (1992.051.009) and three copies.; (b) a photograph (photocopy) (circa 1936) depicting Hood School crossing guards two of whom are identified as John O'Hearn, Jr. and Harry Maines, Hood school principal identified as Edward G. Lawlor and Lawrence police officers, three of whom are identified as Frank Hayden, Sr., Officer Dow and Officer Ludwig. This photograph is referenced as No. 15 on Oral History tape #165;  (c) :Gilbert E. Hood School, June 1947 Memories" book which contains a class picture, yearbook pictures, 45th reunion photographs and classmate bios. (2) (2002.067, 2002.008); (d) Newspaper clipping "Hood School Future Uncertain", depicting a photograph of the Hood School and a reporting of the uncertain future of the school. This clipping is undated.

Folder Francis Leahy School. This folder contains the following items: (a) a plot plan "Plan of Land Proposed for Seizure by the City of Lawrence for Elementary School" March 1921; (b) an inspection certificate from the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety certifying the use of the Leahey School hall, dated March 9, 1950; (c) "The Merrimack River - A Unit in Social Studies and Science", designated as part of the curriculum for grades five and six at the Leahey School for the years 1970-1971; (d) "Thirty Concepts Around the City of Lawrence" which is a proposed study in the social sciences for grades five and six at the Leahey School for the years 1971-1972; "Leaders of Lawrence, Volume II, 1981" which is a compilation of interviews conducted by Leahey School and Salem Street School students. The interviewees are Joseph Markey, Jack Pavlenkov, Frank Messer and Patrick Schiavone; (e) School calendar for the years 2010-2011; (f) Certificates of Inspection from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts issued to the Leahey School (2); (g) a handout given to visitors to the Leahey school during the Open House commemorating the final walkthrough of the school, dated November, 2022; (h) a souvenir bookmark with a white tassel commemorating the original Leahey School including a photograph of the original school and a color rendering of the new Leahey School with the year 2025, which represents the anticipated opening of the new school.

Lawrence Public Schools - The Lawrence School Committee v The Board of Education 1997

Folder This folder contains the 1997 lawsuit filed by the Lawrence School Committee against the Massachusetts Board of Education.  In this Motion for Preliminary Injunction, the Lawrence School Committee attempted to prevent the Board of Education from continuing the fact finding process to determine whether a receiver in Lawrence was appropriate. The motion was denied.

This is a photograph of the Bradstreet House in North Andover. The photograph is not dated. On the back, the following information is written;

 

"From Mulholloland, Lawrence.

 

The Bradstreet House, North Andover. Built in 1667, it was the house of one of the first Governors of Massachusetts, Simon Bradstreet, and his wife, Anne Dudley Bradstreet, recognized as America's first poetess. It is still used as a dwelling house and is in an excellent state of preservation.
