By connecting the growth of Lawrence to the growth of the Essex Company, this book explains how Lawrence became a thriving industrial city. It also focuses on a wide variety of institutions and events such as the building of the Essex Dam, the Industrial Strike, notable social and fraternal organizations, the development of the school systems, notable disasters throughout the history of Lawrence, as well as Lawrence’s contribution to World War I. It also includes photographs of the Mill District, the Lawrence Dam, Pacific Print Works, Wood Worsted Mills, several fire departments, several schools, several churches, public buildings, and several politicians.
