How Did the WPA Work?

How Did the WPA Work? City and state governments proposed projects, which were selected by the state’s WPA administrator and overseen locally. Most projects were relatively small-scale, under $25,000 – roughly $400,000 in today’s currency. City governments covered most of the material and equipment costs, while the WPA paid all wages. Cities were encouraged to create a list of approved projects that could begin immediately as funding became available.
