A History of the 4th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment in the Civil War
This book is about the little known 4th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment that served in Louisiana for nine months. The names of the men are listed in the book by the company they served in. The book tells about the records & reports of this unit being destroyed by the Confederates leaving them without an official record. One of the missions of this 4th Infantry Group was to take control of the Mississippi River corridor. This was accomplished and while they were in Louisiana bayou country some men mutinied. One soldier did
manage to keep a diary which surfaced 130 years later which enabled the regiment's history to finally be recorded.
