"Mrs. Martin Burns stands in the doorway of her well-stocked dry goods store at 294 Park Street. Besides operating the only dry goods store run by a woman in Lawrence then, Mrs. Burns was also a skilled milliner and dressmaker. As was customary for many merchants at that time, she resided directly above her enterprise. Mrs. Burns later opened a shop around the corner on Broadway."
