"Early photograph of Lawrence dam. The hill in the left back ground is Tower Hill. The bridge in the centre led to what was then known as the Lumber Dock. The gap spanned by the bridge was later filled in to form part of Water Street. The large building to the right of the tall smoking chimney was a brewery, and the building to the extreme right is believed to be a hotel then known as the Pacific house. July 31, 1936." The river and falls are frozen and snow covered.
