"Photos of bed of Merrimack River in vicinity of Central Bridge taken September 9, 1917, showing accumulation of material excavated for pier foundations, which was all left in the river with no attempt at removal. Also shows the general bed of the river. Shows the Northerly bascule pier with material of small stone and some large boulders mixed and the Railroad pier in background. Surface in foreground is between Ref. 4 and 5 feet."
