A tapered, clear glass bottle with a metal stopper. The front of the bottle reads : REGISTERED - M. CARNEY & CO. LAWRENCE, MASS. 53 & 55 HAMPSHIRE ST. AND 421 & 423 COMMON ST. There are no markings on the bottle bottom. M.Carney and Company was an importer and wholesaler of liquors. The city directory of 1889 lists them as brewers of Carney, Lynch and Company's celebrated. Michael J. Carney lived in North Andover in 1900 according to the Lawrence directory. Matthew J. Carney, also of M. Carney and Company , residing at 333 Haverhill Street in Lawrence, is also listed in the same directory. James P. Dowd is the donor of this item .
