A tapered, clear glass bottle with a rusted metal and porcelain stopper. The stopper reads in red lettering : JULIUS WESSEL & CO. LAWRENCE, MASS. The symbol - a " J " imposed on a "W" is in the center of the stopper. The bottle reads in raised lettering : REGISTERED - JULIUS WESSEL - 283 -285 -289 PARK ST.- LAWRENCE, MASS. - THIS BOTTLE NOT TO BE SOLD. The "J" over the "W" symbol is in the center of the wording. . The bottom of the bottle has the number - 166. According to the City Directory of 1915, Julius Wessel and Company were wholesalers and bottlers of choice ales , wines and liquors. They had a sample room at the same location on Park street that is found on the bottle. The donor of this item is James P. Dowd.
