Ashtray

These are three, black, white and green, rectangular, glass ashtrays with an image of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on it. Across the image of the state it reads : BAY STATE MERCHANTS NATIONAL BANK. There are no other markings on the ashtrays. Bay State Merchants was originally called Bay State National Bank, located at 303 Essex Street in Lawrence. It was established as a state bank in 1847 and as a national bank in 1865. There were several branches throughout the Merrimack valley. The bank no longer exists. The ashtrays are part of the Hamblet collection.
