This is a commemorative button (or pin ) worn by the Veterans of the Spanish American War, 1898-99.
The button is white and gold with a gold decorative trim around the edge. A red, white and blue ribbon in the design of the American flag hangs underneath the pin.
The face of the pin reads : ANNUAL ENCAMPMENT U.S.W.V. 1919 - LAWRENCE, MASS.
In the center of the pin is a cross with a circle in the middle . The arms of the cross read : CUBA, PUERTO RICO, U.S.A., PHILIPPINE ISLANDS.
The inscription around the circle reads : SPANISH WAR VETERANS- 1898-99.
In the middle of the circle is an image of two military men and an indigenous person.
The back of the pin reads : THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO., BUTTONS, BADGES, NOVELTIES AND SIGNS. NEWARK, NJ.
