Information Artifacts
Sub-series contains newspapers and scrapbooks found within the Essex Company files. There are three scrap books included:
One scrapbook containing clippings believed to have been kept by the James E. Bagley, Jr., Treasurer from 1946-1968.
One scrapbook believed to have been kept by Robert Tewksbury, Essex Company Cashier, containing clippings from c.1860-c.1880.
One scrapbook kept by James Baldwin, Essex Company Engineer from 1928-1955.
Also present are whole or mostly intact editions of the following newspapers:
Boston Courier - February 1, 1848 & December 6, 1848 (used and labeled as wrapping for time books).
Boston Post - January 15, 1855 (containing an article related to the case of James Abbott v. Essex Company).
Tri-weekly American [Lawrence] - January 10, 1867 (containing an article related to the case of Durant v. Essex Company).
Boston Daily Advertiser - November 21, 1866 (containing an article related to the case of Aldophus Durant v. Essex Company).
Lawrence Telegram - April 23, 1908 (containing additional sections describing the history of Lawrence, Massachusetts, including a brief history of the Essex Company)
