Sub-series contains documentation related to the planning and construction of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial in Lawrence.
Memorial was completed in 1881. Essex Company cashier Robert Tewksbury was a member of the Memorial Fund Directors.
Materials include correspondence, accounting information, contracts, and other miscellaneous documents dated between 1879-1883. There are also 126 small account books with entries of donations made to the fund. In addition, a scrapbook is included which contains numerous newspaper clippings about the memorial, its fund, and other Civil War-related topics as late as 1905.

admin: Robert H. Tewsbury was cashier of the Essex Company from 1875-1910.

Scrapbook is 10" x 12," paper records are legal-sized or smaller, and account books are cardboard-bound 5" x 8."

Scrapbook contains original newspaper articles glued onto paper. Photocopying of materials should be completed to retain information.
