The sub-series contains correspondence sent to and from the Essex Company Treasurer's Office in Boston. The Treasurer was the primary officer of the Essex Company. His correspondence covers the major events and business issues of the company. During the periods 1845-1882 & 1927-1977, most of the correspondence is between the Treasurer's Office in Boston and the Cashier and the Engineer in Lawrence.

Photographs of what? from the Treasurer's Correspondence (1940-1979) were removed to more appropriate storage, and replaced with a separation sheet indicating subject of photograph, original location, and facsimile of photograph.
