Bank statements
Sub-series includes cancelled checks drawn against various banking account held by the Essex Company. Included are drafts from both general business accounts and dividend accounts. Later accounts (after abt. 1910) regularly include a reconciliation statement accompanying the cancelled checks. Information contained in the records includes name of payee, date of transaction, amount of draft, and signature of the treasurer or his designee. Checks to individuals often include the original signature of the payee in the form of an endorsement on the revers of the documents. Present are checks drawn form the following banking institutions:

Merchants National Bank (January 1884-December 1901)
Old Colony Trust Company (May 1894-January 1932)
City Trust Company (June 1906-April 1910)
State Street Trust Company (May 1901-July 1918)
First National Bank of Boston (January 1935-1944; 1978)
