100th Anniversary Pageant Program of the First Universalist Church, Methuen, MA.
This folder contains three copies of the script for the " Historic Pageant In Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the First Universalist Church of Methuen, Mass." ( 1924) The script is eight pages long. One copy is a mimeographed version with no additional markings. The paper has turned brown and is very brittle. The second copy is typed, with pencil notations and some pasted amendments. The third copy is a photostatic version on acid free paper made by the LHC.
The script tells the history of the Universalist Church upon its arrival in New Jersey and the establishment of the Society in Methuen, Massachusetts in 1824. One section refers to the Ladies' Benevolent Society and the fact that " it is not yet the custom for women to attend Parish Meetings, but these good sisters make no complaint at this abridgement of their priveleges." The script speaks of the church influence in the community, the participation in wars of the young men and its hopes for the future.
