Title
Engineer's Office Data and Business Files
Sub-series contains files maintained by the Engineer's Office of the Essex Company and includes information on mill sites, bridges, fishways, the canals and rivers, property issues, and water power development in general from 1845-1970. It includes files which the Essex Company referred to as "Data on Mill Sites" and "Data Files". This appears to have been the primary filing arrangement used by the engineer's office, and contains correspondence, but was maintained separately from the "Engineer's Correspondence" files. Also in the sub-series are various organizational materials, such as a set of index cards for the filing arrangement of the cabinets, index cards with information about contacts for the Engineer's Office, and properties maintenance information. Of particular historic value in this sub-series is a "Record of Boats and Rafts Passing EC Locks" dating to 1848, and the Carpenter's Time Books from 1922-1941.
