Sub-series contains Certificate books (1846-1945) numbered sequentially 1-18, with 11 additional books labeled with the certificate numbers contained therein. Until c.1882, cancelled stock certificates that were returned to the company were re-adhered into the binders from which they were removed. After 1882, they were stored loose. The 18 numbered bindings plus one more contain the reattached cancelled certificates, while the remaining 9 bindings contain only certificate stubs. Loose cancelled certificates are stored in 3 cartons and are often accompanied by receipts of stock sale or other relevant documentation. Cancelled certificates contain date of purchase and cancellation, number of shares, and name of stockholder.
