This folder contains an envelope, used as a check register, with cancelled checks ( approximately 32 checks) inside.The checks are drawn on The Methuen National Bank. The checks are payable to Fred S. Woodbury and signed by W. L. S. Gilcreast. The checks are all endorsed with either, " For Deposit only - Fred S. Woodbury," or " Fred S. Woodbury," or "For deposit to First Universalist Parish - Fred S. Woodbury Treas." The register is dated from March 1, 1926 through July 22, 1938.
Also in the folder are three sheets of paper. One is a letter dated March 1, 1926 written by Kimball Colby on Hotel Somerset , Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, Mass. stationary to the Trustees Gleason Memorial Church from the late Mr. Fred P. Kendall of Portland , Oregon. The second piece of paper refers to a bequest of $2000.00 paid to the church. The paper states, " In accordance with the instructions received from Mr. Charles H. Cooper, Moderator of Trustees of Gleason Memorial Universalist Church, the income is payable to you as Clerk and will be forwarded to you. Signed John D. Emerson, Cashier." The top of the page is missing. The identity of the clerk or the donor is unknown.
The third sheet of paper is from the Massachusetts Universalist Convention addressed to Mr. W.L.S.Gilcreast, Clerk, First Universalist Parish, Methuen, MA, referring to the Low-Colby and Asa Simonds Funds. The letter is dated March 12, 1929.
