Scrapbook

This scrapbook includes news clippings from the Eagle Tribune spanning the mid-1960s to 2001, each regarding Gerard A. Guilmette’s political connections to Lawrence, Massachusetts. Guilmette served as a State Representative from 1965-1978; this scrapbook has articles pertaining to the elections, campaigns, voter information, and critical bills that were developed and/or approved during Guilmette’s time in politics. These articles also include information on other candidates– including John Bresnahan and Edward Grimley. Also included in this scrapbook are campaign posters and pamphlets stating his slogan “Tax Conscious. Family Man. Veteran.” and “A Record of Proven Ability” in his re-election campaigns following 1965. These articles provide important information on Lawrence politics over the decades, including breaking news on the 1973 plans for redistricting the area– which was controversial. The scrapbook ends with news clippings from a 2001 Eagle Tribune article seeking names for an honorary school in Lawrence. Guilmette was one of the chosen. Guilmette devoted nearly half of his life to Lawrence politics and community work.
