Guilmette was educated at St. Anne’s Grammar School followed by Lawrence High School where he graduated in 1930. Following his high school graduation, he was a local businessman for decades before becoming the director of health and charities in 1955– a position he served in until 1966. This scrapbook provides information on the political and community involvement of Gerard A. Guilmette spanned from the early 1940s to the late 1970s. This scrapbook includes certificates from his time as a soldier during World War II, certifications as a member of the House of Representatives, campaign posters and pamphlets from Guilmette’s campaign for office as the Director of Health and Charities, holiday cards and letters from important political figures– including the Kennedy family–, ending with a news clipping from the Eagle Tribune in 2001 when a school in Lawrence was named to honor Guilmette’s contributions to the community. The information in this scrapbook provides insight into the minor and major life achievements of Gerard A. Guilmette, as well as the events leading to his eventual retirement.
