This is a framed print of the front page of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper, a magazine from New York published on Saturday, January 21, 1860. This is Vol. IX - No. 216. "Entered according to Act of Congress, in the Year 1860, by Frank Leslie, in the Clerk's Office of the District Court for the Southern District of New York."
The images on the front page depict "The Fearful Tragedy at Lawrence, Mass,-Destruction of the Pemberton Mills-Scenes and Incidents,-Sketched on the Spot.".
This print is contained within a plastic black matte frame [16 x 21"]. The print itself has dimensions of 10 x 15". This print was framed by Andover Gallery.
The largest image at the bottom of the page depicts the scene in Lawrence city hall as it served as a temporary hospital. A crowd of parents, wives, children and friends were gathered to examine and recognize the dead or wounded. The three other images depicts a young girl tearing her clothes as she escapes from the ruins, a arm of a girl reaching out to four rescuers who fail in alleviating the flames and debris, and a rescued Irishman lighting his cigar with the flames as firefighters watch on.
