Eisenmenger's book is a study that examines the New England "economic paradox". The author examines this "paradox" to illuminate the historical development in New England, but also to indicate its future direction. Eisenmenger utilizes statistical records to provide an analysis of where the future lies with the new "technologically oriented manufacturing and service industries." The author claims that this book is "for economists by an economist" as well as a "book for government leaders, businessmen and industrialists, educators, and everyone concerned with New England's prosperity today—and tomorrow."
