This book details the plight of many Irish citizens which resulted in them immigrating to America. Once on American soil, Irish immigrants helped to build roads, served in the armed forces, and worked a wide variety of jobs. In Lawrence, Massachusetts, many of those working within the mills and factories were Irish immigrants. By organizing politically and unionizing, Irish communities were able to demand better standards of living and higher wages. Today, descendants of Irish immigrants can be found in every facet of American culture.
