This is a scrapbook surrounding the topic of city repairs and construction from the point of view of the Director of Engineering in Essex County in 1950. The book begins with a set of letters sent from the Director of Engineering to the Essex County court house in Salem, Massachusetts. These letters are asking for permission to pave roads and re-construct sidewalks in Lawrence. The rest of the book is filled with articles surrounding municipal and government work, articles on the postal service, faulty water piping, the degradation of roads, and legal notices for construction and repair. Some articles also detail these problems as they were discussed in Lawrence city council, and how they solved or did not solve the underlying municipal issue. An Eagle Tribune envelope with the Director of Engineering’s seal on the front is tucked into the last page of the book.
