Title
“Helen Rys” Polish Community Scrapbook
This is a scrapbook filled with newspaper clippings surrounding the many important events and relevant people in the Polish Community in Lawrence from 1933 to 1939. Most of the clippings are articles about a community party or sporting event, sometimes weddings or church gatherings as well. The most prominent clippings are of articles written about the Holy Trinity and St. Francis churches as well as their respective schools. The St. Francis women’s basketball team was apparently a tour de force from 1933 to 1937, as many of these clippings are about this teams unbeatable streak against rival teams like the one at the Y.W.C.A. Articles about the Federated Polish Women’s Club, a still intact napkin with autographs from Polish Community members, as well as an obituary article for one young guardsman by the name of Theodore Bedul are all also present in the book.
