Book

This book catalogues the story of “The Little Corner Store” in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and its role in the wartime rationing attitude of the citizens who frequented the store in the midst of America’s involvement in WWII. Walter and Bertha Abbot’s store was just one of a handful of grocery stores in Portsmouth at the time that played their role in overseeing rationing for the town, interpreting ration regulations, and educating their local customers on how to be a “Patriotic Consumer” during wartime. The entire book focuses solely on how the ration system worked in places like “The Little Corner Store”, and what the culture of rationing was like during the ‘40s.
