A book about the daughter of an Irish-Lebanese family living in the Boston area who travels to Baghdad to cover the U.S. invasion in 2003. The protagonist, Rita, and her family come from a city that is titled "Lawton" in the novel, which is heavily implied through context to be a placeholder for Lawrence. The front cover of the novel even features an image of the clock-tower in Lawrence, and Rita explains in the first few pages of novel that her hometown was once a bustling mill city with a large population of immigrants.
