Polish Community Scrapbook
Title (generic)
Scrapbook
This is a smaller black, hardcover scrapbook containing newspaper photos of Polish community members as well as articles announcing weddings, ordinations and community events during the 1940s. Some of the events include minstrel shows, testimonial dinners for recently accredited community physicians and anniversaries of priesthood. The end of the scrapbook is filled with Polish community member’s obituaries taken from several newspapers, as well as small stories like one depicting the effects of industrial emissions on the children in the community, and another depicting the death of one Eugene Stoclinski due to an accident at the paper mill he worked at. Lighter stories, like one about how a “Rolling Kitchen” food cart made and run by Lawrence citizens was donated to Great Britain to support the war effort, are also present in the scrapbook. This community scrapbook was owned and/or put together by one S. Peirog who signed the last page of the book.
