A black and white photograph of workers on a barge at the Stone Dam on the Merrimack River. Essex Company workers are placing flashing flood panels on the top of the Stone Dam. The panels blocked water from going over the dam when the canals needed the water. The barge was built in the Carpenter Shop of the Essex Company - now the Lawrence History Center. The Carpenter Shop was built with a length equal to the barge length. You can see the signs for Bicknell Brothers Clothers and Sunshine Biscutes in the background.
