Text on back of image: Pacific Mills - Worsted Dept. - Lower Mill. Wool Sorters
Wool Sorting: the first process which grease wool undergoes after its purchase by the manufacturer. Sorting is guided by the requirements of each manufacturer and differs according to the type of yarn and cloth to be produced from the wool A mill that manufactures high quality goods will make as many sorts as possible to get the full benefit of each fleece. The wool sorter observes and handles the wool. His experience enables him to automatically assign each to its proper grade. [From 'American Wool Handbook', VonBergen-Mauersberger - 1948]
