Summary: The narrator describes the Brook/Union Street area where he spent his youth. He includes the businesses, particularly bakeries, which were so abundant in the locale. Besides people of his Lithuanian heritage, there were Polish, German, and Italian people (and the resulting businesses). His friends were primarily Italian. He played in the section which today is Scarito Park; the boys would roast potatoes in the small fires that they built. They also would go through a large drain pipe to fight boys from Prospect Hill.
