This book tells the story of the life of William M. Wood who began his life in Portugal in the middle of the 19th century. His first real job was in New Bedford, MA where he felt that the textile industry was the "giant" among industries. He became involved in the business end of the industry and his reputation as a dynamic, creative young man grew. Through his contacts in the textile industry his business profession grew. When he moved to Lawrence he steadily moved upward and eventually became friends with Frederick Ayer who was owner of the Washington Mills and President of the American Woolen Company. Eventually, through hard work and the love of learning the textile business, he became the owner of the American Woolen Co.
