This book tells the story of the history of the United States through images of objects, prints, and photographs held at the Smithsonian Institution. It begins with the lives of Native American before the first colonists came to North America and ends with the year the book was written. The book is broken down into four parts: People for a New Nation; Old Way, New World; Shared Experiences; and A Nation Among Nations. Each chapter is written by a different author, and they focus on very different subjects, including the American Dream, Albert Einstein, Cooking, Technology, and Immigration.
