Title
Word War II Pacific Theater Scrapbook
Title (generic)
Scrapbook
This scrapbook contains many photos of American soldiers during World War II in New Guinea and Manila. There are photographs of soldiers in their bunks and some images of the native populations. The scrapbook also contains pamphlets for soldiers returning home from battle with instructions on how to conduct themselves at the camp. One pamphlet of particular interest describes Camp Stoneman in San Francisco, CA. It instructs veterans where to go in the camp to sleep and eat, find telephones to call loved ones, and warns them to ensure that they have not brought back any explosive souvenirs from the Japanese army, although they were allowed to keep non-exploding souvenirs. This scrapbook is associated with Sargent Carmelo Funari who was serving with the 1307th construction engineering battalion in Manila. There are some newspaper clipping about him, and the scrapbook also contains his immunization register and his U.S. army unit baggage tag.
