Elizabeth Stuart Phelps, a writer from Andover, MA wrote a series of books for girls and adults. Her husband Austin Phelps whom she married in 1842 was the pastor at the Pine Street Congregational Church and was a professor of theology at Andover Theological Seminary. This book emphasizes the injustices suffered by the pastor's wife throughout her lifetime. Chapters include correspondences between Elizabeth and her friends and family as well as incidences in her life with her husband and the religious community of Andover.
