My Life as a Political Prisoner
The author tells the story of her incarceration. She was assigned to a maximum-security prison at age 64, spending 28 months as a Smith Act "political prisoner" in the 1950s. She relates how she was much older than most of the prisoners and had a hard time with the noise, loud music and adolescent personalities. She used the time to read over 200 books, poetry, plays, classics philosophy and psychology.
