The focus of this non-fiction book is on the strikes in Lawrence in 1882 and 1912. The examines the "role of women in worker militancy." One mill officer called women "radicals of the worst sort" because they became unionized and fought for equaliy. The author, Ardis Cameron, also included oral histories of former workers who were involved in the 1912 Bread and Roses Strike. She also documented the nationalities of every family in Lawrence living in multicultural neighborhoods.
