The objects shown in the more than 700 illustrations come from the Smithsonian Institution. These objects reflect upon the
richness of America's past and the relationship of a country to the material values. The illustrations show a German salt-glazed
stoneware, English lantern clocks, Iroquois secret society masks and many other illustrations This book begins with the earliest Asian
migration in 22000B.C. and goes into the 20th century. It covers foreign traditions in America and searches out "America's place
among other nations. Many of the darker parts of America have been covered, i.e., racial prejudice, the brutal treatment of the
American Indians etc. There is also another lighter side illustrated: a baseball game, Amos 'n' Andy on the radio or Enrico
Caruso on the gramophone.
