This is a beautifully framed portrait of Thelma Todd, the actress, donated to the I.C.A. She was born in Lawrence and lived in South Lawrence during her early
years. She won a local beauty contest and was encouraged to further her career in acting in Hollywood. She became a well-known movie
star in the '20s & 30's before she died the victim of carbon monoxide poisoning in her garage. Her death was mysterious, but there was no evidence to
prove homicide or suicide. The investigating authorities ruled that she died in the early morning hours after parking her car in the garage with
the motor running after coming home from a party.
