This is a portrait of Joseph Ettor, an IWW member and strike organizer during The Bread and Roses Strike of 1912. Ettor, along with Arturo Giovannitti, was charged with being an accessory to murder in the death of Anna LoPizzo. Joseph Caruso, a striker, was charged in her murder. In November of 1912 the men were acquitted. Ettor signed this portrait to Thomas J. Doran, a jury member: "To Thomas J. Doran as token of friendship and appreciation. Sincerely, Joseph Ettor, Lawrence, Mass, December 18, 1912".
