Essex Co. Shed on left of photo. Troops around 1917 marching down Essex Street, Lawrence, MA.
News article's description of the photo is as follows:
"Lawrencians generally refer to this as the end of Essex Street instead of the beginning, which it is. Seen from the second floor of the Essex Company's main building at 6 Essex St, it looks west to Newbury St. The year is 1917 and these troops have just completed their duties marching in a parade. America had recently entered the war in Europe. At left, Italian flags blow in the wind atop tenements crowded with paesani who dominate this section downtown."
