This photograph shows Leonard Bernstein (in a light blue suit) smoking a cigarette while looking down at his birthday cake. The cake is white with blue candles and blue writing. The decorations include drawings of the Lawrence dam and mills, Leonard Bernstein, and piano keys. The cake has three tiers, and the bottom two have writing on them. The writing on the middle tier is illegible, but the bottom tier says "Happy Birthday Maistro." There are four people (both men and women) around him, who are also looking at the cake. One woman is pointing to one of the pictures. In the background musical instruments, and a microphone, for a band can be seen.
