Essex Company
This framed notice is from Hiram F. Mills, chief engineer of the Essex Company. It states "The Essex Company, for the purpose of making necessary repairs requiring the rebuilding of a portion of their Lower Locks at the outlet of the North Canal at Lawrence, will be obliged to close the said Locks on or about the 11th day of October, 1909, and to keep the same closed for two months from and after said date."
