First Fire Truck June 30, 1920. " the first piece of motor apparatus ever used by the Lawrence Fire Department. On a Buick truck body, donated by Charles E. Battershill, the men of the Ames Street Fire station mounted the body of a pung used in winter and rigged up the apparatus named Combination 8. It was put into service with appropriate ceremonies on Wednesday, June 30, 1920 at 1:30 pm and a short time later made its first run to afire at Willardale Creamery, Inc. Farley street. Shown standing with the vehicle in front of Engine 8's house on Ames Street are the Deputy Chief Michael McPhee, Alderman Peter Carr, and Chief Francis J. Morris, all are now deceased.
