Trails and Sails at the Lawrence History Center.
As part of the Essex County Trails and Sails week-end, Lawrence History Center hosted two Family events. Due to the not so perfect week-end weather, both events were held on Sunday, September 28 11:00 a.m.
The day began with the Mystery History Photo Tour
Challenging visitors with the question: How well do you know our City , people started out from our Courtyard with* Historic photo clues and Map* to see if they could identify these historic places in today's Lawrence! Answers were provided upon the return to the Courtyard. A raffle was held, along with refreshments. All participants received a Fasanella print of the Bread and Roses Strike.
LHC Courtyard became the site of a Bocce Ball court - with taped court lines, official scoreboard and equipment. Despite the dreary weather, some hardy souls tried their skill at this very old, very popular Italian "bowling" game and had a great time. NDHS Campus Minister, Sean Backe , was challenged by the younger generation, Kane Weber and his family, in trying to score a few points!
The best part of the day ?
That would be the students from Notre Dame High School
Arriving on time and in their uniforms ,(and I might add in good humor!)these Students from the NDHS Ambassadors Program under the guidance of Academic Dean, Delia Duran - Clark, assisted the guests with registration.
Then equipped with the Mystery History booklet and Immigrant City Archives umbrellas - they ventured out to discover the historic locations in today's setting.
It was a terrific thing to see - these young men and women, in uniform, with our umbrellas - touring our City! Their response - the pictures were too easy! Not only were they able to identify the sites but they also knew the historical events taking place in the images.
We were so honored to have these young men and women as part of the Essex County Trails and Sails event - next time, I know the weather will be better!! ( and the mystery pictures harder!)
